Authors message

I believe the author’s message is to not give up, but don’t get your hopes up and dwell on something that could possible never come true. In the book, when Margo goes missing Quentin is obsessed with trying to find her and never gives up hoping he will. Everytime people think he’s crazy he finds a new clue leading to Margo’s disappearance. But also, Quentin has been so obsessed with finding Margo he lets it affect his life. He’s at the end of the school year, and Margo going missing has completely enveloped his life. His friends are moving on with their lives, finding relationships, and going to prom, having parties and meeting new friends when all Quentin does is pick apart every little thing to just find one clue to get closer to Margo. I think not giving up is a great message represented by this book, but also the fact that you shouldn’t let one thing take over you life completely, if it may never possibly be okay in the end.  ...

Similarities between characters in my group

Some interesting similarities me and my group came across mainly handle the main point and message of the story. Most of our book contain someone being sick and or leaving in some way or another, ultimately separating or coming close to separating them from the one they love. In my book, Margo leaves Quentin, running away from home. In Philly’s book, The Sun Is Also a Star, the female character is going to be deported, separating her from the person she’s in love with. In Lauren’s book, Everything Everything, the female main character is sick and unable to go outside, preventing her from visiting the one she loves, the male main character. And finally in Meghan’s book, The Fault in Our Stars, both the female and male main character have cancer, and it is indeterminists if they will pass away or not, which could separate them. So, we all came to the conclusion that our books have similar plot lines, with the two main characters, usually lovers, ultimately get separated or come ...

Quentin character arc, thus far

Quentin, the main character of Paper Towns, is a very quiet, yet sophisticated character. He is very intelligent, and really thinks about the consequences of his actions, and thoroughly develops his plans before he takes them into action. But he is also very strong willed, and let’s his feelings and fears get in the way of his actions most of the time. For example, when he found an address Margo had left for him as a clue to finding her, he went the next morning, as soon as he could, but he didn’t really think too much about the dangers of going to a random address. This building, was abandoned, and Q wasn’t prepared for the dark and desolate building they were walking into. This was because Q acted out of impulse, and let his emotions and love for Margo get the best of him.        I believe I connect with the character because I too let my emotions get the best of me, but I also think about the conseque...

Explain a character's problem and then offer your character advice on how to solve his/her problem, pt 2.

My character, Q’s, problem is that his friend and neighbor Margo has gone missing. Margo has gone missing before and usually leaves clues on how to find her, but they are very hidden and only meant for Q to find. Q has tried everything so far, and after racking up some clues, for example: the poster on her window, which led to her record, which led to a poetry book, then the highlighted words led to a note in Q’s bedroom door hinges with an address on it. These clues that Margo left for Q could potentially lead to where she is. A bigger problem is that Margo has been missing for four days. Margo usually disappears but eventually comes back within days less than that. This time, it doesn’t seem as if Margo is going to give up. Margo has gone missing so many times that even her parents don’t have the energy to find her. She’s run away so many times, that each time it’s getting harder to find her. Her parents are almost happy she’s gone, and that bothers Q and...

In my book, Paper Towns, I like everything about the book. I like the excitement and adventure that Margo and Q go on, by “righting wrongs and wronging rights.“ Margo forces Q out of his comfort zone, and i really like that about the book because I feel as if i should do the same. There is nothing much I dislike, but as the story goes on i’m sure i’ll disagree with some points in the book. But, for the most part, I thoroughly enjoy the book, it has the perfect amount of suspense and adventure that keeps you excited and on the edge of your seat.         The current problem in the book is that Margo’s boyfriend Jase cheated on her, with her bestfriend Becca, so Margo takes her neighbor Quentin, mostly referred to as Q, on an eleven part or “phase” adventure to get revenge on them. They begin this escapade in the middle of the night, around one o’clock in the morning on a school night using Q’s mom‘s minivan to ”right“ their “wrongs“ and “wro...
